With its warm red tone and fine, uniform grain, Redheart is an ideal candidate for ornamental turnings. The wood is remarkably easy to work and exhibits very little tearout. Cut from a small, gnarled shrub, it is difficult to find in larger pieces. These turning blanks are available in an assortment of sizes for bowls, platters, carvings, bottle stoppers, chess pieces, tool handles, table legs, spindles, finials, candlesticks and whatever else your imagination can conjure up! Olivewood is undoubtedly the sentimental choice of makers of many religious items. Indigenous to the Mediterranean region — including the Middle East, southern Europe, and North Africa — Olivewood lends a certain degree of authenticity to such religious-themed products as crucifixes (Christianity), mezuzahs (Judaism), and ossuaries (Islam). The fact that Olive trees are mentioned in both the Bible and Qur'an only adds to Olivewood's aura of sacredness. Color and grain pattern will vary with each pen blank.

Countries of Origin: Mediterranean Area of Northern Africa

• Dark brown streaks contrast attractively with yellowish-brown heartwood
• Wood is hard, but not difficult to work with
• Olive trees have been known to live for upwards of 1,500 years

Bocote is a hard, dense, and fairly oily tropical wood that is highly prized for its dramatic, wild striping. These dark brown or black streaks, which sometimes form in concentric circles, give Bocote its defining look and lend finished products a truly distinctive appearance. Amboyna Burl (Pterocarpus indicus) is one of the most distinctive and sought after burl woods in the world. With heartwood ranging in color from golden yellow to deep red, and with beautifully contrasting, straw-colored sapwood — not to mention an inherent, often spectacular, wavy grain pattern — Amboyna Burl can add flair to almost any wood project. • Heartwood ranges from golden yellow to deep red
• Also called Narra Carves well
• Considered excellent for both turning and finishing

Bolivian Rosewood, or "Morado" as it is more commonly known, is a dense, easily worked wood from Central and South America. Purplish tan in color and streaked with brown or black figure. Walnut like scent. Takes a beautiful natural polish. Color and grain pattern will vary with each pen blank.

Botanic Name Machaerium schleroxylon

Honduras rosewood, this hard, heavy, true rosewood grows in Belize (British Honduras). Although somewhat less variagated in color and grain than some rosewoods, it IS a rosewood and is attractive and works and polishes quite well. Its color, generally some shade of purple, remains stable over time. Color and grain pattern will vary with each pen blank.

Dalbergia stevensonii of the family Leguminosae (subfamily Papilionoideae), the legume or pea family

Vera Wood or Bulnesia arborea is an evergreen tree native to Colombia and Venezuela. Of the family Zygophyllaceae it is cultivated for its buttery-yellow flowers and valuable hard and heavy timber called Vera Wood or Maracaibo Lignum Vitae. Vera Wood was introduced from Venezuala to South Florida by Dr. David Fairchild. Color and grain pattern will vary with each pen blank.

Black and White Ebony is an exotic wood with color that is reported to vary with species, usually uniformly black with light-colored bands, pale to medium brown zones, or with marked contrast between almost white and black wood. The black heartwood is reported to be more brittle than the lighter colored sapwood. Color and grain pattern will vary with each pen blank.

Specie Latin: Diospyros embryopteris

Koa is a Hawaiian wood with medium brown color. These High grade blanks have good to exceptional curl that sets them apart from the normal Curly Koa. Color and grain pattern will vary with each pen blank.

Emanating From Asia, this is a unique species that is slightly oily like Teak and has a similar musky smell. The wood ages to take on sunset like yellows, oranges, and darker shades with exposure. Sunset wood is truly beautiful in appearance, easy to turn and polishes well. Knots and small burl eyes are present in some boards. Completely wax sealed.
