The cast body of the jig straddles the blade and attaches to the cutter block by way of rare earth magnets embedded in solid brass bars. The brass bars pivot to accommodate different diameters of cutter block and the magnets hold the jig firm without damaging the cutter block. A third brass bar, again with rare earth magnets embedded, is suspended in the middle of the jig and this holds the blade level so it can be locked in position in the cutter block. This is an easy way to set all planer blades at the same height within the same cutter block as the fixed nature of the jig gives perfectly repeatable results.
