2" Dual Bearing Bowl Sander

with 40 assorted discs

When you need to finish sand the inside of your wood turned bowl it can be a challenge to keep the wood from showing scuff marks. Using a piece of hand held sandpaper can also be somewhat dangerous. Our bowl sander essentially fixes this issue by having a dual bearing, smooth rotating head that spins with the rotation of the bowl while the bowl is rotating on the lathe. The 9 inch long handle also helps keep your hands out of harms way.

We have included the most common diameter sanding head with the bowl sander. This sander head is made from a foam material that gives just enough to provide you with wonderful looking results each time you sand your projects. This 2" head size works well on most bowl turning projects since it can work with larger or smaller work pieces. Also included 10 ea. 80 grit, 10 ea. 120 grit, 10 ea. 150 grit and 10 ea. 220 grit hook and loop sanding discs.

Dual Bearings Equal Better Performance and Smoother Rotation

Most handled bowl sanders have maybe one bearing or no bearing at all on the head assembly. Without a bearing, the rotation of the sanding mandrel can get choppy at best when trying to sand while your project is spinning on a lathe. Our bowls sander has two smooth rotating bearings that produce much less friction than sanders without bearings. This means you will achieve much better results finishing your project using our Dual Bearing Bowl Sander

Keep it moving...

One of the keys to properly using these types of sanders, is to keep the tool moving while sanding on a rotating wood lathe. This ensures that the sander doesn't over heat or mistakenly mark you wood. Included with the sander are full color instructions that help guide you with the correct techniques and proper way to use the sander to achieve the best results possible.

It's All About the Touch...

When your project is rotating on your lathe, its already creating friction without touching it. When you start sanding, your essentially doubling the amount of friction and more since the sandpaper grit creates its own friction. When using the bowl sander its all about the touch when sanding on your lathe. Lightly touch the sander to the rotating bowl using the bottom of the sanding disc. Work your way from the rim or lip of your project to the center of the bowl. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be producing wonderfully finished projects in no time!

Have a Favorite Sander with 1/4" Mandrel?

A unique feature is that you can easily swap out sanders by simply loosening the set screw on the main brass bushing. Once loose, you can remove the original sander and either use a different diameter sander or a sander with a 1/4" mandrel that you feel comfortable with. We have included the hex key wrench and an extra short bushing that is used for shorter length sander mandrels.

Over the years we noticed many, many customers complaining about the grits in a lot of kits are almost impossible to tell apart. While it is rather difficult to mark each disc clearly on either side, we decided to package each grit in packs of 10 with the grit clearly marked for you to identify each grit in seconds!

Master Bowl Sander Kit

Our 1”, 2” and 3” Sanders are perfect for getting in those tight radiuses that regular sanders cannot. Typical Disc holder are hard and rigid and won't allow you to sand or get into curved areas. Whether the curve is convex or concave the soft thick pad on our sanders allow you to easily work those areas. Works great for woodworkers and even on some automotive applications.

Designed for Sanding Curved Surfaces

When sanding curved surfaces like those found on lathe turned wooden bowls, it is important to have just the right touch when contacting the project. The sanders are designed to allow you to work and sand curved surfaces with the aid of an electric hand held power sander. Typically a variable speed drill works best with these sanders especially since it allows your to effortlessly control the speed of the mandrels rotation. This allows you to gain more control of the sander and gives you a much better feel than standard style drills. Each mandrel has a thick foam base with a hook and loop pad which accepts any corresponding size hook and loop sanding disc. The mandrels measure 1/4" in diameter which is perfect for most standard 3/8" drill chuck size. These sanders can also be used with flexible shaft chucks as well.

Stack em' However You Like em'!

Stack all of the included interface pads or don't use any if you like. All you need to do is get a good feel for each pad and what works best for you and your projects. The two interface pads are medium and soft in overall firmness respectively. Typically we would use both for tighter or more delicate sanding projects, while using the sanding mandrel with its firm base pad can be used a bit more aggressively. Each pad is lined with a hook and loop top and bottom for easy attachment and removal when needed.

Sanding bowls on your lathe doesn't have to be difficult or tedious. The Savannah Adjustable Bowl Sanding System makes bowl sanding easier, quicker and will improve your end result. The unique rotating head is driven by the rotation of your workpiece and your fingers will never contact the workpiece, The foam hook and loop faced pad conforms to the shape of your turning so the abrasive disc always stays in contact with the bowl profile. The Ultimate Sanding System

Are you like most woodturners and tired of the velcro on your bowl sander wearing out from the continuous cycle of ripping the sandpaper on & off to add another grit until the sanding Disc will not attach any longer because the velcro hooks wore down?

You now have the perfect solution to that problem with the versatile Roloc System. Instead of ripping the sanding discs on & off you simply unscrew the holder from the stem/mandrel leaving that grit sanding disc on it and screw another holder on with a different grit. By replacing the holder instead of the sanding disc, not only does the holders velcro last a lot longer it also increases the sanding disc life. Just keep the same sanding disc on the same holder until it finally wears out and then replace it. Just incase you damage the holder or finally do wear out the velcro, the package includes replacement hook velcro with industrial adhesive backing to fix it.

The package also includes a 10mm thick intermittent pad for extra softness for tight curves on smaller projects. You can also use a 3" holder on a 2" stem/mandrel for extra flex. Lastly, if you need to do some hand sanding, these holders are easy to grab and will get into the tight spaces.
